Arp Museum, Remagen Rolandseck

New light for a special place
You step into the historic train station in Remagen - and find yourself in a completely reimagined foyer. Open, warm, colourful, inviting. The Arp Museum has rethought its entrance space - not just as a passageway, but as a place to meet. A space for arriving, orienting, pausing. A sense of welcome from the very first step inside.

A place with history - and a new face
The old Rolandseck station has seen a lot over the years: artists like Johannes Brahms and Hans Arp once passed through here. Today, the listed building houses a museum of modern and contemporary art - and carries the ambition to reflect its unique character through design. That´s why the entire ground floor has been reworked from the ground up. With respect for its architectural heritage - and the courage to add bold colour.

Colour, structure, and function - rearranged
The redesign followed a clear intention: to create a welcoming space that offers orientation and inspires, rather than overwhelms. Soft tones now zone the space, highlighting arches and ceiling vaults. The shop has been opened up, the cloakroom better integrated, and a lounge area with soft furniture and digital tools invites visitors to pause and stay. What was once a functional reception area is now a vibrant threshold - one that makes the museum experience tangible from the first moment.

Light that supports architecture
Lighting plays a key role in shaping this new spatial atmosphere. Buschfeld provided a system that blends into the background while delivering maximum impact - both technically and visually. The slim Pend48 tracks with Led Line Uplight bring soft illumination into the vaulted ceilings, subtly enhancing colour and form. In the shop, Fifty XS Spots with Soraa Snap lenses offer flexible accent lighting. Two selected artworks are highlighted by Ninety-Five Spots, precisely adapted to the existing 3-phase rails – for powerful, focused illumination.
