light.ness by Sanja Lulei

Project luminaire

Light.ness combines Sanja Lulei’s handwoven textiles with Buschfeld’s precise 48V lighting track. The textile sleeve made from natural fibres forms a calm, spatial light object – lightweight, structured and individually scalable.

Light.ness is a handwoven textile luminaire by Sanja Lulei × Buschfeld. Light.ness brings together the finesse of handwoven textiles and precise lighting technology. The luminaire is formed from a woven tube made of wool, cotton and linen, placed over a glass cylinder that softens the light and gives it clarity and spatial presence. The surface retains its tactile quality, and in dialogue with the light the textile shifts in depth, transparency and atmosphere. What begins as a flat structure becomes a three-dimensional object that shapes a space quietly and with restraint.

The textile sleeve is developed by textile designer Sanja Lulei, who works at the intersection of art, craft and design. Her weaving is grounded in precise construction, which she refines intuitively throughout the process. White-on-white is not a stylistic gesture for her but a deliberate reduction: colour steps back so that material, structure and light can enter into a subtle conversation. With many years of experience in the international textile industry – from home textiles to fashion – and her own artistic practice, she brings a deep understanding of materiality to the work. Her pieces have received multiple awards and have been shown across Europe and Asia. Light.ness continues this approach: a textile object that introduces calm, deceleration and a heightened sensory perception into architectural and interior spaces.

The luminaire is connected to the 48V Buschfeld lighting track. The pared-back construction allows the textile form to appear almost weightless. The technical foundation remains discreet while the textile defines the character. Different lengths, diameters and weave structures make it possible to adapt Light.ness to specific spatial proportions and lighting atmospheres. As each piece is woven individually, natural variations emerge – genuine one-of-a-kind works that can be produced to measure or in small series.

Light.ness shows how textile and light can develop a shared language: structured, quiet, poetic – yet clear in its effect.
