Ulm Minster
The innovative Tri48 Floor free-standing luminaires, which are way ahead of their time, were used for the first time in the Ulm Minster project. This customised solution was specially developed for the listed building and provides discreet but effective lighting. The Ninety-Five S luminaires, which are mounted on the Tri48 Floor free-standing luminaires, blend in with the historic architecture of the cathedral and emphasise its beauty without being obtrusive.
The challenge was to integrate modern lighting technology into a listed building without detracting from its character. Walter Bamberger, the lighting designer responsible, emphasised the importance of a subtle lighting solution: ‘The aim was to create lighting that respects the space and at the same time emphasises the architectural details.’ Thanks to the integration of the control gear in the base of the free-standing luminaires, it was possible to realise a minimalist and elegant solution that met both functional and aesthetic requirements.
At the time, this project set new standards in the lighting of historic buildings and shows how modern technology can be used sensitively and effectively.
