Soraa® Inc. was co-founded in California in 2008 by Shuji Nakamura, who was later awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for his groundbreaking research in the field of LED technology. Soraa technology is regarded and respected as being pioneering when it comes to innovative LED lighting. The technical design approach and the care with which Soraa light sources are constructed have a very clear focus: the perfect rendering of white and all colours in the visible spectrum – just as nature intended. Ideal for illuminating and designing the lighting in galleries, museums or sacred buildings. Back in 2013, Buschfeld was the first German lighting manufacturer to integrate Soraa’s unique LED products into their luminaires.

Luminous intensity, quality and design. Perfect light in a perfect package.

Buschfeld’s Sense System® luminaires are based on and around light engines from Soraa. Their COB (Chip-on-Board) is built around groundbreaking GaN on GaN™ LED technology that ensures clearly focussed light with practically perfect light distribution, uniform colour temperature and smooth, flowing transitions. Sense System luminaires are therefore able to deliver a luminous intensity that one would normally only expect from substantially larger light sources. Their beam angles range from narrow beam to planar lighting and can be used in combination with Snap system accessories to adapt light distribution and colour temperature on site. Buschfeld provides a special service by producing custom-made heat sinks for the light engines: Buschfeld provides a special service by producing custom-made heat sinks for the light engines: form and finish, as well as mechanical assembly solutions can be varied to suit the respective requirements, making it straightforward to design LED luminaires based on a modular system.Furthermore, the light sources comprise integral temperature sensors to support the efficient evaluation of thermal management. Their mechanical parts are easy to apply with commercially available assembly solutions, thus facilitating the design of LED luminaires.

Soraa technology enables phenomenal light spectra, which goes hand in hand with uncompromising optical quality. Buschfeld luminaires produce clearly defined, uniform light thanks to high-precision prismatic lenses and high-tech light guidance optics in the luminaires. All colours and shades of natural light – even the complex white and red hues – the light emitted is uniform and clearly defined. All colours and shades of white and red are rendered to perfection, with crisp, clearly defined shadows and beams of light completing the picture.

Soraa Vivid Color™. Given that the natural light spectrum ranges from violet to red, accurate colour rendering requires that the right quantity of spectral components exist in every 400 to 700 nm wavelength. Soraa makes use of the latest scientific findings on colour science and are the only company to offer LEDs that cover the entire visible spectrum from violet to deep red (R9). They use the latest TM-30 process. This allows individual colors to be accurately rendered with natural saturation.

Soraa Natural White™ for the Buschfeld Sense System: colour scientists have known for a long time that violet light plays a key role with regard to the way we perceive the colour white. The myriad shades of white that are omnipresent in our environment give us a sense of clarity, brightness and distance. Manufacturers and marketers are continually trying to achieve a whiter shade of white using fluorescent brighteners. But the colour of the light that enables us to see true white is violet. Soraa have developed an LED that covers the entire violet spectrum. With the only LED that fully covers the violet spectrum, Soraa is leading the innovation in this field. Using their internally developed whiteness rendering index, Soraa can deliver white LEDs that feature a smooth spectrum similar to natural light. This forms the basis for Soraa‘s “Natural White“ technology, giving rise to a practically endless number of shades of white – as is to be found in natural light.

The original colour rendering index (CRI) is based on eight pastel colours, none of which is red. Which is why a vibrant shade of red (R9), almost identical to that of the sun, has been added. A high CRI without a strong R9 tends to make skin colours and different shades of red look rather lifeless or dull, because the vitality, or vibrance, this essential colour enables us to preceiveis lacking. R9 values range from -100to +100 in natural sunlight. Soraa Vividhas an R9 value of +95, one of the highest it is possible to achieve. Andthis renders shades of red truly vividand saturates our senses.

All the Snap accessory components have been designed and manufactured to work together with narrow-beam LEDs. The combination of GaN on GaN™ LED technology with an innovative set of magnetic filters and lenses opens up completely new possibilities for the lighting designer with regard to flexibility and control of the light. Thanks to beam-shaping lenses and CCT shifter filters, installations of all kinds can be adapted and modified just by specifying a single lamp. The simple honey-comb louvre Snap filter reduces glare coming from a very high angle with the result that in the case of downlight ap-plications all light beams disappear.
